How To Choose The Class That Is Right For Your Young Dancer

New Students:
Use the age and experience descriptions below to choose the class best suited for your needs. The references to previous classicalballet training refer to the actual study of ballet technique, which does not normally begin until a child is 7 or 8 years old. If you need assistance, please call our office at (770) 476-4306.
Current DSB Students:
DANCE DISCOVERY classes are meant to be an introduction to the level your young dancer will enter in the Fall.

Following their daily 45-minute dance class, these young students will enjoy fun activities, such as making a Magic Wand, just like the one Cinderella's Fairy Godmother has! They'll also get to color pictures from the story, and act out some of the different parts. During the week, they'll get to watch the Royal Ballet dance the ballet version of the story, with two of the craziest Ugly Step-sisters anyone has ever seen! At the end of the camp, they will go home with their own DANCEcamp Memories scrapbook, with all the fun things they've done, and a picture of their class!

Students also learn valuable lessons about anatomy, health and nutrition, music and dance vocabulary. After their daily 1-hour class, which will introduce students to the basic ballet technique, our students will watch this famous ballet, as danced by the Royal Ballet and then spend their time with other fun-filled activities that teach them about dance history, music, pantomime, and a lot more. At the end of the camp, they'll come home with their own scrapbook, which includes all of their work.

They'll also learn about other aspects of dance and music, as well as have a chance to explore their own creativity. And like our other camps, they create their own scrapbook of their work.

Summer Programs For Intermediate & Advanced Dancers
This summer, the Duluth School of Ballet is pleased to offer two different series of classes for ballet students who want to further their knowledge of the art form and improve their technique. Summer study for serious dance students is critical - three months away from the ballet studio is time that cannot be regained. The generally accepted rule of thumb is that for every class you miss, it will take you two classes just to get back to where you were before you missed the first class!

The Intermediate level classes are recommended for dancers age 9 & up who are not yet on pointe and are about to enter our Grade II-A or II-B levels. These classes are also suitable for older beginners age 11 and up.

The Advanced level classes are recommended for dancers who are already on pointe or are within a few months of going on pointe. Any DSB student who has just completed Grade II-B, or is enrolled in Grade III or higher should take these classes.

Unlike our Dance Discovery program, these classes are offered over the entire summer, beginning June 19, and ending August 14. However, the Wednesday morning class will not be held once the public schools go into session.

The classes will be taught by our regular faculty, as well as special guest teachers.

To take these classes, students purchase a class card for the number of classes they plan to attend. The card can be used for any of the classes listed below:

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL CLASSES

Intermediate Ballet Mondays 5:00 - 6:30 Code 76108
Wednesdays 10:00 -11:30 Code 76108

ADVANCED LEVEL CLASSES

Advanced Ballet/Pointe Mondays 6:30 - 8:30 Code 76208
Tuesdays 6:00 - 8:00 Code 76408
Wednesdays 10:00 -12:00 Code 76408
Thursdays 6:00 - 8:00 Code 76408

GUIDE TO CHOOSING WHICH ADVANCED CLASSES TO ATTEND: All classes usually include ballet and pointe work. The pointe portion of the Monday and Wednesday classes will be geared more towards the beginning and intermediate pointe student. Depending on attendance, the TUESDAY and THURSDAY ballet classes may be divided into two classes.

IMPORTANT: Because we have no way of knowing how many students will be coming to any given class, we reserve the right to cancel the class on any day/night if less than 6 students attend. This rarely happens - but you need to be aware of this policy.
