Duluth School of Ballet

Summer Dance Programs

The Duluth School of Ballet's Summer Dance Programs were developed by Artistic Director Peter Garick to provide a wholesome, FUN summer dance learning experience for young dance students. Each program is designed to expand a child's dance knowledge according to the child's individual learning level.

For children who are thinking about studying dance, summer classes are a great way to find out if you really like it before you decide to commit to an entire season of lessons. For those already enrolled in classes, summer study provides the opportunity to continue to improve the skills that were developed during the previous year's study. This is especially important for students who are serious about their dance training, especially those who are at the upper levels. Ballet technique cannot be maintained or improved upon unless it is continually practiced.

Three different programs are available at DSB during the summer months, each one designed to fit a different family summer schedule.

Dance Discovery

A series of weekly classes just like our classes during the year, designed to be an introduction to the level the student will enter in September. Very popular with families who don’t plan extensive summer vacations.. Many of these students also participate in our DANCEcamp programs. The full series of class lasts for 6 weeks. Students who cannot attend the full session can purchase "drop-in" classes.

DANCEcamp

Our most popular summer program! In addition to dance classes, students learn about and watch videos of famous classical ballets, and explore their own creativity through exercises in pantomime and dramatic interpretation. They also learn valuable lessons about anatomy, health and nutrition, dance history, vocabulary, and music through creative exercises designed to make learning fun. Each student goes home with their own DANCEcamp Memories scrapbook - which they create and make themselves!
Our DANCEcamps this summer are offered in two formats:

I. Week-long Camps
Students come every day for a full week for 2.5 hours a day.

II. One Day A Week Camp
Instead of coming every day for a week, students come one day a week for 6 weeks.

Drop-In Camp Days are available for students who cannot attend for the entire session
