About The Artistic Director
Peter Garick began his study of dance in South Carolina with Margaret
Foster, a pioneer of ballet in the Southeast. In 1968, he joined Canada's
internationally-renowned Royal Winnipeg Ballet, where he studied under
Artistic Director Arnold Spohr, Jean McKenzie, Ted Patterson, Gwynne Ashton,
Frank Bourman, Eugene Slavin, and numerous guest teachers, including
Benjamin Harkarvy and Vera Volkova.. As a dancer with the RWB, Mr. Garick
toured Canada and the United States, as well as Australia, Cuba, France,
Italy, Mexico, and South and Central America.
In 1975, Mr. Garick became Company Manager to the RWB, responsible for
coordinating all details of the Company's extensive touring. In 1978, he
became Company Manager for the Theatre
Department of Canada's National Arts Center in Ottawa. In 1982 he and his
friend Sergei Sawchyn developed and produced the first-ever tour of the
western world of the Great Circus of China.
In 1984, Mr. Garick returned to the US to work as a free-lance consultant in
arts management and promotion. He has also been a master teacher and
choreographer for several schools and companies throughout the Southeast,
including the Columbia Ballet School and the South Carolina Ballet Theatre
(Columbia, S.C.), The Gainesville Ballet (Gainesville, GA), The Ruth
Mitchell Dance Theatre (Atlanta, GA), the University of South Carolina Dance
company, and the South Carolina Summer Dance Conservatory.
